DADDY WAS A GENTLE MAN

When I was just a little tyke

Daddy danced with me upon his feet.

He helped me learn to ride a bike,

And to not accept defeat.

He taught me many things,

Like how to take a chance

No matter what life brings

Or what the circumstance;

To search for good in everyone;

(It's there if you just look)

Stick to a job until it's done;

Spend time lost in a book.

Daddy was a gentle man,

And in his softly spoken voice

Said, "I will help you all I can,

But it must be your choice

Which path you want to take.

For life is just a journey

Everyone must make."

His words still mean a lot to me.

I MISS YOU DADDY

Wonderful tribute. I could remember my father going through your poem. I wonder why some think of the old as, old fools rather than wise old man. I was going through some of your poetry and felt I must let you know.
