Mexican Wasteland

Out of the blue it came--

the charge, the violence, the madness,

the sheer brutality of a lawless land:

first they stormed the gates

like a pack of wild wolves,

the irate father, the cops,

& the mighty eye of public execution

w/out a warrant, w/out proof,

w/out a trial they threw a man into the slammer,

(sentence preordained)

never mind the incongrous narrative,

never mind the facts would not attest the words,

never mind the lack of evidence--

never mind the mindlessness;

then came the slanders, the media's circus acts,

the Roman wilderness of thoughtless tongues,

a whole community of students, teachers, staff,

school directors helplessly ravished,

a guiltless man now bleeds his soul inside

a prison cell under a rottening sun

in the Mexican wasteland.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this poem about an outrageous act of injustice in Mexico City, where a pre-school boy's father and a corrupt legal system sentenced an innocent man to jail without a single proof of guilt, without any evidence, and without any fair trial. The poem, I hope, speaks for itself. So much for Human Rights in this country.

Makes you wonder how many countless others were stricken with the same fate. Sad but true! Good write with this one!
