At Lady Certainly's RT Stockings, 2

[after the poem, 'Seamed,' by Jessica R]

'He said I seemed like my new stockings:
'mostly sheer and translucent,
'reinforced (therefore opaque) where snags might run;
'and elegance like a seam for those who care to look twice.'

'Better shoeless than not,
'never much taken by momentary fashions;
'they supply soft satisfactions to suppliant senses---
'the soul's sighs sound in sibilance of syllables.'

Author's Notes/Comments:

The last two lines are meant to evoke the sound of unshod, shear-sheathed footsteps.
