At The Beginning Of Belief

Made sin for me, and on my own cross, slain;
then raised from death for my justification,
You ask of me only that I believe
and trust upon you for my sure Salvation,
now and forever.  Thought cannot conceive
the utter depth of sinful degradation
that Your soul bore for mine; nor else the pain
Your body suffered fully.  And the twain,
made into one, relentless agony,
that You, as God, endured infinitely
(not as to subjugation, but degree
of anguish):  You did all of that for me.
Your precious Gift I need only receive.
Your gracious Word I need only believe.
