Thoughts In The Council Chamber

We need to get that Jesus to the temple,
appointing him to some entitled job.
We need to keep him busy and, perhaps, that
will trim his popularity, or rob

him of his great charisma with the people
(vastly inferior to us, for we
are stewards of the customs that are founded
on Genesis through Deuteronomy).

He does not keep the codes of separation.
He teaches any time and any place---
in houses, on the road, and by the lakeside.
He does not understand the sacred space,

the threshold that prevents the common sinner,
the tax man, or that young adulteress
from bringing their unclean flesh near the Holy.
Their kind must be forbidden to transgress

what we have kept apart in sanctimony.
Yes, we are well aware---we are not fools!---
that compromise, as Jesus here has preached it,
will wear away even the greatest rules.

To that end, we should bring him to the temple,
and show him---without over jealousy--
the reason for this sudden escalation
and why he should conform proactively.

I am embarrassed:  how could I have known
that, at his word, I, too, would drop my stone?

Starward

Author's Notes/Comments:

I could not resist putting a bit of "business-speak" in this one.

Jere'
They were so jealous of how Jesus preached, because people listened and followed him everywhere he went.. They wanted to tone down his preaching and tried so hard to turn others away from him... But he preached his fathers words an honest no leaving anyone out.. he spoke to everyone, no matter who they were.
I really like this piece, it tells so much about how sneaky the scribes were...
Thanks for sharing this
