At Jerusalem, 2

I wonder if it was a pretty day,
when they went out beyond the city gate---
a fresh Spring morning to appreciate:
the sun bright; high, white clouds wending their way
across an endless sky of perfect blue.
(Beneath such skies, what great things might men do?)
I wonder if the scent of fragrant flowers
surrounded them.  The prospect of six hours'
amusement was not fully manifest
(but on a day like that, only the best
should be expected).  After having trod
long, dusty roads that led them far from Rome,
not one of them was thinking much of home---

that day they crucified the Son of God.

Jere,
The way you discribe the day he was crucified, like any normal beautiful Spring day... would his father (God) have it any other way.. I have often wondered what they were thinking on that long journey from Rome.. What kind of thoughts ran through their minds.. knowing what was going to happen..
Very good piece, makes you stop and think.
Peace and Love
