Precedents

Stendhal is said to have used over a hundred pen names before settling on the one we now associate with his finest work (see Taphless Gibler's essay, "Not Quite As Numerous As The Stars Above Milan").

Hokusai, a Japanese artist of the Edo period, used several different names---each change marking a period of his life, and its accomplishments.

A Florentine poet, by the name of Durante, was referred to by a shortened form of that name, Dante.

They tell me that Voltaire used over one hundred fifty different names for his various writings, at the several stages of his life.

I defer to the wisdom of these major artists whose accomplishments I admire.

a worthwhile observation

We can't pontificate our writing nor can we guide our Muse. In a very real way, it is our writing that defines the contours of our life journey, and the periods of travel, its stopovers, sojourns, and stretches. Thanks for sharing.
