too much to ask?
some friends i've made have already drifted
some to places i don't recognize
like the times when i'm driving through places i know
but forget where i am
what if
after school
we go our seperate ways
and then we get reunion calls from anna kwiatkowski asking us to "please come to reunion weekend because there are great parties being planned"
parties that no one will go to
because each of us figures the other won't go
so none of us go
and we all drift to the ends of the earth
i never see you again
you who made my days worth living
what if you fall off the face of the earth
or before you do
forget about me
and how maybe my smile made your day
maybe that's our job
to grow up and grow away from all those people
who used to be so important to us
i always wonder about the ones who will hang on to me
who will call often enough to know how my kids are or how my health is
i want to be remembered on birthday calendars
maybe have a space on someone's speed dial
is this too much to ask?
i've thought about it before too, so if you remember my birthday and give me a spot on your speed dial, i'll do the same for you!
