Oath of Citizenship:
'I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely
1. renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;
This means, you cannot have your cake and eat it too by holding dual citizenship, for it is written that 'a man cannot serve two masters for he will hate the one and love the other.” By taking this oath, you renounce your citizenship to your old country to accept the opportunities and principles the United States has to offer.
2. that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic;
You recognize that there are those that hate the United States and the freedoms it offers, even in your old country, and you will defend with all the passion in you, your new country, its way of life and principles of liberty and justice for all.
3. that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same;
Faced with defending the United States against your old country, you will do so without hesitation and with pride.
4. that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law;
You recognize throughout history that the cost of freedom was paid in the blood of patriots and will gladly lay down your life, if called upon, to protect these freedoms.
5. that I will perform noncombatant service in the armed forces of the United States when required by the law;
You will gladly lend your skills and expertise in the defense of the United States when called upon to do so. You will work within the laws of the land to right injustices and for the advancement of world peace.
6. that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law;
You will consider it an honor to assist your adopted nation to advance its scientific knowledge or to use you as a tool to advance freedom around the world.
7. and that I take this obligation freely without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God.'
You do this with honor, of your own free will adopt this country as your own and pray to your God that you will serve your adopted country with honor.
Pledge of Allegiance
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and the republic for which it stands. One nation under God with liberty and justice for all.
In days of old, when one pledged allegiance to another, they were offering their sword to protect and defend the recipient. They pledged their sword, and their honor. Here we pledge on our honor to protect and defend the United States against enemies foreign and domestic, and the ideals of life, liberty, pursuit of happiness, and equal justice for all regardless of race, creed, religion, and even sexual orientation.
