Dear Sergeant,
Don’t beat yourself up over leaving me,
You did right getting the convoy free.
Had you stayed by my side,
A lot more good folks would have died.
You are to be commended for your heroism under fire,
I will recommend you for a bronze star for valor
For getting them out of there.
I don’t remember much about it because of my memory,
But from what I have been told, it was an amazing feat.
Thank you for acting in that way,
Doing so, many lives were saved.
I am proud to call you friend all the same,
Now the hard part, I still don’t remember your name.
Amnesiac joke,
Sorry, couldn’t resist the poke.
What I remember after I was taken,
Was a long interrogation,
But since my memory was kaput,
They took me to a higher up.
He recognized me as the one from the village everyone was looking for,
And not wanting to go against the clerics as he knew what would be in store,
Took me back to the venerable one,
To continue the interrogation.
Once they knew it was me,
The Venerable One patched me up and set me free.
Then God sent his only son,
And not only did I see him which is not new,
But so did the Venerable One.
Right there in that holiest of place,
The Venerable One fell down on his face.
Boy was he ever surprised,
When my friend and savior, I, said “rise”.
Right then and there, he believed in I,
“Jesus came to us,” he said, “Why?”
It is simple why God sent our Lord,
He expects us to spread his word.
You have been chosen to lead these people to the light,
To break down their dogma and steer them right.
I tell you I have never seen a revival like that.
Didn’t understand a word, but the converts were thick as gnats.
I don’t know if they were speaking in tongues or of our country’s host,
I just know there was a bunch filled with the Holy Ghost.
Again, I thank you and pray for your safety.
When you come back to the states,
Please come and see me.
Tell Ms Linda, and the kids, I send my love,
And will pray for all of you that I can think of.
Peace be with you sergeant.
Keep your head Down.
Capt. Sean Costickson.
