Walls Around my Heart

Copyright 12/19/03 Ferrell L. "Huck" Hickson

I have been hurt so many times

I began to build walls

Around this heart of mine.

With each hurt, it grows higher

To protect me from

Playing with the heart’s fire.

Here within my walls of stone

I am safe…

Wait…

I have made a prison.

Author's Notes/Comments:

When you have been hurt by those you love so many times, you start to insulate yourself to protect yourself from heartbreak, but in doing so, your walls become a prison that lets no one in, nor you out. The pain will subside, you must stay in the game, that special person is out there that will make the search worthwhile and make you forget all the pain of getting there.
