They march to and fro'
Waiting their turn to go.
Marching in their pretty lines,
Preparing for the call and their time.
The call comes and they fly away,
Some to return, some to stay
In these hallowed fields they lie
Where enemy fire took their lives.
They answered their country's call
Those brave heroes, one and all.
We must never forget the price they paid
For our freedom, aggression was stayed.
We salute our young men and women,
Who fight and serve
Our way of life they defend
With dedication, heroism, and raw nerve.
They fight in the trenches, air, and sea,
In hospitals, kitchens, and infantry.
They fight in the snow, rain, and heat,
With conviction of purpose that can't be beat.
Thank you mighty warriors for freedom's cause,
To you we give standing applause.
In the tradition of those gone before,
You uphold our honor and integrity even in war.
God bless you all, and bear no hate
Against those you fight, Their cause is their fate.
Their countries called and they answered as you
To defend their nation's ideals too.
Treat them with honor, they did what they had to do
Just as your country expects it of you.
When peace reigns in the end,
Wounds will heal, God willing, We will all be friends.
Excellent poem and one that I can relate to as a British Veteran who has seen operational service
And I, Sir, salute you!!
