poem_198_From_Red_to_Green

A late morning I woke.

Late to school I became.

Unmercifully heavy eyes,

In sleep I couldn’t tame.

My body was weighed down.

As if though I had legs of steel,

Up and down stairs I went.

Equanimity off, I could feel.

Staggering in the hallways.

Barely able to keep awake.

Body so brought down,

With the sleep I had to shake.

Four tests to take:

1st, 4th, and 5th,

And after school in Japanese,

To fight my sleep with.

Then the headache came.

This pounding pain.

That lasted 3 periods long,

And wrecked my brain.

During 7th period,

A greater bother rose,

As I tried to figure out,

Some action script to compose.

A noisy classroom,

And still falling asleep.

CJ poking me in the sides.

Open eyes I tried to keep.

Then the day turned,

To Japanese after school,

Where I was slightly awake,

In my loosing duel.

It was approximately 1730,

That’s military time you know,

And finally I was headed home,

But still a long day to go.

It was only to be so long,

As I had come to guess,

Because of the already long day,

That I had to transgress.

I looked at my dashboard,

I was below the empty bar,

And had not much money,

So I worried of my car.

Yet in my weary eyes,

And now fatigue and dismay,

I looked out my window,

To a beautiful display.

Upon approaching Kingsland,

The traffic had stopped me.

As I looked up to the sky,

A black cloud of birds I see.

Swaying together perfectly.

Not a single beat missed.

No gaps where formed,

In their massive exist.

And amidst all their struggle,

To fly against the wind,

There was an aura about them,

And a message to send.

The traffic light was endless.

This red glowing dot.

But seemed to take me,

Into a place with no distraught.

There was a peaceful song playing,

As my radio blared loud.

That further enhanced,

This captivating black cloud.

And in this moment,

I heard the wind as well,

Brushing through my car,

It’s own story to tell.

The light changed color.

Now it was green,

Everyone was moving,

As I followed routine.

In this odd moment,

Through hypnotizing emit,

I found myself no longer,

In a sleepy submit.

My car made it home.

My eyes were wide.

My mood was content.

My walk a balanced stride.

Through hundreds of little birds,

A wind blowing gently,

An entrancing light shown,

And lifted me awake so intently.
