Bitter days, dark and cold
Spark the fire, hard to hold
When you said all those words,
I somehow must have misheard
“Going away?” I simply ask
His reply, “Yes, staying seems to just be another task”
“Stay with me tonight,” she begged
“I can’t June, this isn’t right” he said knowing his words were digging a deeper grave
“Well then, just leave me already!” she screamed,
“I should have known then you would be this cold and mean.”
Jimmy went to pack his bags,
Moments later he was gone
June was left there alone,
To pick up the pieces and move on
Weeks later, there was a call
And a message on the answering machine
June wondered if she should listen
Would Jimmy apologize for leaving?
When he called again, she just let it ring
And listen to him plead on the other end
He could not stay, now she wants nothing to do with him
She wants to say goodbye, he wants to start all over again
