YOU KNOW, YOU KNOW, YOU NEVER KNOW

Folder:
THE DRUNKENING

you know,

you know,

you never know

how things will turn out

you never know

what’s gonna happen

It’s all a mystery to us

mere mortal humanoids

the struggle to understand the way—

\the meaning of it all

It’s elusive like a butterfly

and our net has a hle

in it anyway

you know,

you know,

you never know

which way is up

or your elbow from your hand

The difficult questions

lay in front of us

We answer incorrectly

though we’re always

just so sure of ourselves

as if we know

but you know,

you know,

you never know

which way the wind blows

or where the rain falls

the job is yours

the girl there likes you

the streets are safe

for you to walk unmolested

Stars come out

shine so bright in your eyes

you know,

you know,

you never know

cuz life is a mystery

It’s a complex fabric

a fantasy silk suit

that dresses us up

in delusion and confusion

We hypothesize

We speculate

and it’s really all for naught

so sure

we just think we know it all

We’re brainy humans

We really gotta know

what the Hell is going on

in this crazy world we live

you know,

you know,

you never know

what’s gonna happen next

so expect the unexpected

and expect your predictions

to all be wrong

except when they ain’t

you know,

you know,

you never know

1993

A very good year to find balanced verse form. Rare and enlightening. Thanks, I know notched down until it happens.

I turned 27 is 1993.  I still thought I ruled the world.
