HOME ALONE

You’re never home alone

when the cockroaches

and mice invade

Your space invaded

by various vermin

the tiny pitter-patter

of rodent feet

and scurrying roaches

in the kitchen

But no mice or cockroaches

to my knowledge

ever slammed a door shut

Is it audio illusion?

Maybe just hearing things

on a lonely Autumn evening

It’s cold outside

and colorful leaves plunge to death

and crinkle under footsteps

Home alone

with a hyperactive imagination

and a realization

that I really need a few friends

Card Partirs, Scrabble

and team Monopoly - on the list if by next spring no cure. Delta will not be invited. Outside in the park with new friends. Sounds right.
