SQUIRRELS AND YOUNG LOVERS
We were sitting
on a park bench
in Center City
watching squirrels
and young lovers
putting on a show
competing for our attention
and no offense
to the young lovers
but the squirrels
were far more engaging—
and sincere.

Social animals of the non-human form tend to be very sincere in their actions. They also tend to be quick forgiving. We're so alien to the other social creatures in this way. Maybe those alien astronaut believers are right? Maybe our origins are from somewhere else ; ) We clearly didn't evolve with that sense of forgive-and-forget. That sense of "let me start from the assumption that he/she meant well". When ever I accidentally step on one of my cats tail or their paw, two seconds of sweet talk and they're purring again. We need to be more like that, I think.
