I have been reading, as I do from time to time, about early Soviet history, particularly 1917-1918 (as Lady A mentioned in her comment), and also the early 20's---when the Bolshevik party almost lost all control due to the horrific state the entire country was in. So your poem resonates between our current situation and theirs (and other times and places, I am sure). Their pandemics were starvation, industrial backwardness, and a party they could not fully trust. We, too, have more than one pandemic: not only Covid, but social unrest and two parties we cannot fully trust. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I kept thinking Russia 1917-18. Now, food shortages. A topical write - glad he survived! ~S~
