Adult confusion

He missed waking up in the morning with the delight of being alive, enticed out of bed by tastes and interactions. Now, the bleak iridescence of human consciousness bothered him. 

A familiar smell once prompted in his minds eye scenes so vivid he considered himself a time traveller. 
Though his skin seemed to have grown taut, he struggled to see the simple beauty of his surroundings without the aid of certain mental accelerants. 
Was this the nature of human growth? Imagination withered by the realisation of human anguish and the acquisition of over ripe logic. 
If so, he did not want to grow old. Preferring the naive thrill of youth. Preferring the unabated contortion of mouth and body, expressing oneself as openly as letters on a page, oblivious to the concept of judgement. 
Now he suppressed gay laughter and high pitched squeals.
