If I could sleep through all the days and nights,
Till the sun burst open like a cheap beach ball
And spewed hot death that shone like fairy lights;
If I could sleep until the end of time,
Immersed in honeysuckle ignorance
And wake to find an I. O. U. from God
Post-it noted to my droopy eyelid;
If I could sleep till love no longer meant pain,
And the dreams I dreamt jumped ship from my head,
With that unbridled joy so fearful to name;
If I could sleep past all man’s waking
Knowingness, and find at the end myself
Untouched, as pristine as the Swiss Alps,
For still in my sleepy dreams I dreamt of sleep;
Why, then I would tumble through the darkling cracks.
I would answer sleep’s sweet carrion call.
For,
If I could sleep, and hope for nothing more,
Then would I have my empty dreams fulfilled.
Of all the poems I've read on
Of all the poems I've read on this site, this is my favorite. Literally.
I'm somewhat jealous. How do you do that? Do you edit your poems a lot before you post them?
Do you find you write better when you are tired? Half-dreaming and creative?
Or do you spend long hours building the perfect image, idea etc? And have you ever been published?

Thanks so much Rebasand. How
Thanks so much Rebasand. How do I do it? It's not so easy to put that into words... at the time of writing, I was sleeping a great deal, almost to the extent that my body clock altered. There is a time between waking and sleeping, that twilight of dozy eyelids, in which ideas have a habit of nestling in my neurons.
I do edit my poems a fair bit before I write them as well. I try to distill and enhance the original thing as much as I can. Sometimes, in the right mood, I will spend a long time, perhaps not hours, but a while thinking about exactly what I want to say, and what sounds like the best way to say it.
I've never been published. It's something I need to get on, but I guess if it's meant to happen, it will happen :).
Thank you again for your comment.

You're welcome. It's really
You're welcome. It's really interesting to learn about how other people write, or go about any creative process.
I love that sleepy state. I think maybe if you're almost dreaming, or kinda dreaming, your mind is free from the normal chaos of daily life and stressful to-do lists, and creativity can just flow. Sometimes I come up with dance choreography in the shower. Or on the bus. Whenever I'm not 'trying' to choreograph. :)

Yeah, it is very interesting.
Yeah, it is very interesting.
You may well be right, I don't really know why it is and I admit I haven't thought about it that much. I just reach out for my phone and tap the idea into my drafts before the morning or afternoon comes and I forget it all. You choreograph?
