Boss's Inquiry (Short Story)

"Are you able to work a double tomorrow?" asks the boss to the clerk at an edible sock company. The clerk fails to respond. The boss repeats the inquiry but remains in the dark. After changing the light bulb, the boss repeats the inquiry but in a chorus. No response.



What the boss fails to realize is that he is speaking to a raccoon. Moreover, the raccoon is a cartoon, a ractoon to be precise. The ractoon pulls a large hammer from his pants and pounds the screen. This, the boss concludes, is an obvious yes response.
