Superheroes are Icons,
there is no real substance
behind them,
They exist for one purpose
to fight an imagined evil,
which doesn't exist
They are so far away from reality,
they exist to perpetuate an endless,
meangless narrative.
There is a difference between a character an image,
and its hard to say if superheroes are anything but
images or cartoons.
There is no deeper meaning in comics or superhero
media, it is all the same, with different faces, different
icons, which have stood the test of time.
Image Control
No matter how bad life seems there is a hero out there on the way. We are subtly conditioned to praise people considered morally superior, bodily stronger, endowed with impossible skills - it's a security ploy by media to gently spread propaganda. Icons of hope and rescue, saving and excellence - comic indeed. They last becaue people want to believe in that which is beyond themselves or their limited abilities. Real heroes and heroines are pepole who act in spite of fears - and these days, that's a great many. ~allets~
I agree. These hypereal
I agree. These hypereal superheros are used to distract people from their own lives or realities. Reality is no longer good enough. People want to escape into this world of hyperreal entertainment. This was the fundemental premise behind the book Infinite Jest that entertainment has gotten so good that it has made the real world seem less real. Another movie that deals with this issue is called Videodrome. Thanks for your insightful comment. I'm really interested in studying this kind of stuff.
