with this old guitar in my hands
and a hurtin in my heart
I'm playin blue notes and chords sittin in the dark
baby you were lyin and I feel like a fool
I got a heavy fever left over from you.
I put my trust in your promises
an you knew I would too
you knew I'd be waitin for them to come true
then along came old Santa sweet daddy claus
he gave you everything a woman could want
Chorus:
baby this old guitar
don't settle no scores
but someday woman
he ain't gonna want you no more
you're gonna cry girl
when he shuts up the door
an I'll be here healin
with these blue notes and chords
Now these misty eyes sre starin
at four walls and the door
on this old guitar I'm playin blue notes and chords
I can see you out drivin your brand new car
while I sit here on the floor with scars on my heart
Bridge:
so when you see me baby don't ask me how I've been
cause you know I been alone while you been with him
girl don't say someday maybe we'll talk
cause you ain't no friend... the only friend I got
is this old guitar and these blue notes and chords
for better or worse I don't need nothin more
with this old guitar in my hands
I'm gonna play right through the pain
right through the darkness, right through the rain
til I can face the days with my spirit restored
with this old guitar and these blue notes and chords.
Music definitely works wonders. I picture the singer sitting there, strumming away, smoky room, low lights, remembering - singing away.....and healing.

Eric...i am regretting not visiting your site earlier...the wealth of your poetry continues to grow ...and it is both inspiring and delightful to read, Eric... I can imagine a dank room, with a little ensemble of musicians, perhaps a sax, a keyboard, double bass and a singer, serenading this piece.... great effect , once again~!! Smilesz.
Music can mend a broken heart. I am living proof of that! A neat song, Eric. I love "the blue note" interesting, but I have a book that revolves around a blues club called "The Blue Note" Isn't that fascinating? I have the opening poem posted on my page. I love this one!! I had this vision of you playing your guitar and saying to hell with her! Very nice writing....
