I have found that the ones that critize you the most have the most to lose if you "fail" or don't come through.  They actually care the most, they just don't know how to deal with what they precieve as betrayals because you don't see life the same as they do. Its their defect not yours, but understanding their love might help you get through to the next level in your life...independence.  There is a fine line between abuse and love but if you can get to a point in your relationship to say "you are doing it again" when they get that you aren't good enough tone going, it might help if they are willing to listen.
