Assurance.

A dim, yellow glow lights up

Our skin, and makes our eyes

Believe that our pale bodies

Have actually developed a tan.

My dress, normally red, now

Looks an interesting shade of

Green and your shirt, that

Plaid shirt that I adore, has

turned fifty shades of color

Once more.

At the plastic table that we

Are sitting around, there are

Cards and bottles and pretzels

Inhabiting all of its space.

There are candles around,

And the insects are trying to

Stay away but those dollar

Store guarantees were never

Something to believe.

Our hands find each other underneath

The table and you bite your lower

Lip, I smile and we both look at each

Other and it's in that one moment

That we both feel found and we're

Not lost anymore, we aren't

Abandoned by those that we loved anymore.

We found each other and we have realized

That we are going to make it through the

Day because everything is going to be okay

Now that we have each other.

Your lips curl up and I kiss your cheek

Your skin turns a slight shade of pink

And my heart races.

My heart races.

You pump the blood

Through my tired veins.
