City in Flames

The sky is fading, gray is becoming the new blue

The sun is sinking into the heavy smoke now

Buildings ignite in blistering flames

The streets have never felt so alive

What a beautiful site, this dying place

But where have all the mislead minds gone to

Do they not dare enter these selfish streets?

No, their bodies lay scattered, face down

These sidewalks couldn’t be any more satisfied.

The smoke rises through the flames, devouring anything else with a dropping pulse

Flames fleeing to the edge of the river, but nothing can calm this madness

They fell faster then the houses they lived in

Faster than the surrounding buildings that fed them false hope

I told you I’d burn this city down just to show you the light

But I thought you knew better, how to be strong

All this was for you

But you fell like every other nobody

So now I watch every lie and scandal go up in flame

And to the lovers that never had their chance, I saved you from one less of a heartache

But now it’s time to say goodnight to the town that never knew how to feel.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Well I was downtown one early morning just sitting waiting for a bus and I just started thinking about this city and the people in it and I guess this is what I came up with.

hey! Wow! I really like this. Great imagery and flow in this. This is my favorite line..."These sidewalks couldn’t be any more satisfied." Great job! ~Jason
