Sold my body for a ride to Detroit
Must of given him head five times
On the way there. He told me to be
Careful as he dropped me off in a shoddy
Part of town, told me it would be a
Shame if someone messed up my pretty
Face, but he doesn't know what he's
Talking about, so I ventured into the cold.
Looking around for my next respite
I never did figure out how to feel good when
I wasn't being used. If I had heeded my
Mother's words I'd be in some church
Right now, but the church tried to change
Me, and as much as I like being abused
I don't like being controlled, this isn't
Oklahoma there's not a single church in
Sight on this street, that's comforting.
Found a drug dealer, can't believe how
Much weed he gave me for a good hand job.
He offered me a place to sleep, but I was
Afraid it was in his bed. Got cat called leaving,
Something about my tall black boots,
Whatever they said, they're quite nice.
It's been a while since I rolled one but
These hands still know how to make a joint.
Blowing clouds I decide to head west.
Met an old lover in Madison on my way to
Minnesota. She told me it's insane how
Much I've changed, I say something about
Hormones will do that when all I really want
To tell her is I haven't changed just how
People see me. Get my first real night of
Sleep in weeks on her couch. In the morning
She gives me a few snacks and asks if
I don't want to stay another night and I
Know she doesn't mean the couch again.
That offer was harder to decline but I did.
Nearly froze to death in the Twin Cities
Couldn't stop shivering and I swore I was
Going to lose my toes. Almost spent a
Night in a shelter before I found a man
For the right price, it's like clockwork really,
Left his apartment thirty minutes before
Sunrise, he slept hardly and I slept
Not at all. I made enough money for a bus,
On an irresistible whim I find myself
Buying a ticket for Denver, unsure,
But fantasizing about mountains,
New places and new people.
Let's have 5 more
Let's have 5 more before Christmas

If I Finished A Poem
It would be novel length. You should try short stories - your poems are short short prose - so vivid - a slice of the unseen. ~allets~
