Retrospective

A boy on the edge

of seventeen

Listens,

As Leon sings “A hard rain is gunna fall”

The boy,

Now forty two,

reflects

on twenty five with her

in a blur

Seems he still sings the same song

for she, is loved,

In a place…where there’s no space… in time

Goin down a hard road

doesn’t know where he’s been

people make him crazy

downs make him lazy

seems he’s sampled every sin

A story often told

yet he speaks …with silence and pain

smiles he sold

never to come his way again

So, how many days

has it been since he was born?

the stranger in a strange land

built all his castles in the sand

and watched as he stood torn

in so many ways

And hummingbird

You never ever flew away

and today

the boy remembers her understanding

knows she was more…than he ever deserved

Yes lady blue

you know its true

will always love you

now and through infinity

For you were more

than just

A lover, a mother, and a wife

You were a friend

until the end

and you loved me

Thank you…Audrey

My brother introduced me to Leon Russell and Cat Stevens. I was in more of Detroit City-Motown "groove" but adapted easily enough. Thanks for sharing your memories in this dedication.
