Your little flicker of light,

Brightens my dark path in the mysterious night.

Your unwanted presence in the day,

Makes all the enemies run away.

I saw you over near the pond, you were so colorful and free,

You were the missing piece to my life; I needed you to be with me.

When you saw me quickly approaching, you tried to fly away, but you didn't get too far,

Because you banged into the bottom of the glass and then I tightly sealed the jar.

Now you were caged, your freedom has abruptly been taken away,

You must always be there by my side; your only choice is to stay.

The moon sneaks up over the horizon, but stuck in your prison you refuse to glow,

Instead you leave me blind in the pitch black, lost in a frigid field of ice and snow.

If I let you out, you'll just escape and fly,

If I leave you trapped, you?ll just starve, suffocate, and die.

Why did I do this to you? What a horrible way we had to meet,

But you are the only thing that would make my life carefree and complete.

I rushed into this too quickly, I caused too much harm,

If I had just a little bit of patience, then the firefly would have slowly came into my arms.

Well now it's too late to pretend that the past was fake,

This was my entire fault, I?ll take the blame for this selfish mistake.

I remember the nights where you would angelically fly and peacefully glow,

In order to see that light again, I must set you free; my only choice is to let you go.

I'm sorry that it ever started, I'm sorry that it must end this way,

My little piece of bliss, please just forever fly away.

Oh how I love you so my little firefly,

But sadly after tonight our little relationship full of lust and lies must die.

I know that I messed up, I'll never again be able to make you mine,

But when I took the lid off that jar, at least I was able to see you glow for one last time.

Well this was a lesson learned, but back then I was just too blind to see,

If I move a little slower and take my time, then the firefly will gradually come to me.
