When we were gullible grammar school students, our teachers would point to the pictures in our History books and lecture, "You will never have to live in a world like this",
Ensuring us empty promises of endless blue skylines and perpetual protection and bliss,
But as graduation day gradually approached, we were merely left with a prediction of punishment and a prognosis of pain,
Throwing our black caps in the oxygen deprived air as black clouds in the gray sky made those shiny silver bullets uninterruptedly rain.
After the celebration…the turmoil and tragedy satanically started to sink in,
Atrocious acts on the innocent enemies would shortly begin.
The silent screams of surrender were easily mistaken for a gentle summer breeze,
Receiving our diabolical diplomas as we scribbled our signatures on the dotted line that'd ship us to fight overseas.
…Wave the white flag now before we reenact the bloodbath battles in Vietnam,
Caught up in the twisted game of war when all we truly wish for is peace and freedom…
When we were feeble young children, our parents would watch the television updating the situations in the Middle East and proclaim, "You will never have to live among the rubble and debris",
Assuring us unfilled fulfillments that our founding fathers died for this country in order for our lives to be careless, secure, and free,
However, as adulthood approached, we exchanged this counterfeit credence for a sight we had to see but didn't want to know,
Throwing our disposable dreams in the oxygen eliminated air as gray clouds in the opaque sky parted and corrupted cannonballs descended from a black rainbow.
After we opened our eyes…reality began to take its tragic toll,
Why haven't the wretched wars of the past taught us that fighting isn't the way to obtain our ultimate glorious goal?
Simulate a smile and feign for the camera as you painfully pose and say "Cheese",
The thought of this terrible treachery brings me to my wounded hands and knees.
…Throw in the towel now before we relive the same miserable mistakes as before,
Visions of freedom are blurry from the black clouds of war…
Excellent Soldier Poem. Kind of reminds me of my poem no sacrilege with an edge to it...but hey well written.
