Be Sure He Knows

whispering winds in the dark of night,

drown out the sound of the little girls cry,

missing the one who to her ment so much,

knowing she'll never again feel daddys touch.

kneeling down for her nightly prayers,

she asks our dear lord if her daddy is there,

if he is could you make sure he knows

just how much i miss and love him so

incase i didnt tell him latly, i want to be sure

he knows how much he ment to me and though now

hes with you lord, i love my daddy and im proud of him

could you please just be sure he knows.

This had me caught in a

This had me caught in a cyclone of emotion . . . and reaching for the tissues.

Beginning with an atmospheric line that tells us something huge is coming, we are soon in the grip of a crushing scene: innocence shadowed by grief, the desperation to reach out in any way to a lost parent.

It also hits home because my grandson's mother (from the other family) was taken from him when he hardly even understood what death was, leaving him to contend with adult issues while in a child's body. Having had a front row seat to that devastation, I can say your description is shattering reality, starkly and powerfully composed.

This is one of the most

This is one of the most poignant poems I have ever read----on postpoems or elsewhere.  I am actually afraid of reading it again so soon, because the emotions it summons, so naturally and effortlessly, are to powerful.  I am curious how you came to write this. Wow.  I am still trying to get my mind around this.  I have spent several minutes just staring at this comment screen.  My emotions are raw over this, and very few poems get to me in this way.
