Please remember
All the happiness you brought me
And the lessons that you taught me
Please remember
All the joys my life could muster
And the glow of my life's luster
Were ignited because of you
Please remember
The times I ventured forward
And tried doing something new
Were also linked to you
Please remember me as someone who
Needed your love
And cherished you in my life
Even as my ex-wife.
Once you asked me
Who my best friend was,
And I barely hesitated:
"You," I said, "because
No one else has loved me as you have."
You thought it was sad.
It's not sad. It's apropos;
It's what you need to know
I wed the woman who loved me right.
Not everyone can say that.
I certainly did not love you back
In the ways you were deserving
But I loved you then and love you now
In ways way more enduring
Now I can bravely depart
Paint a smile upon my urn
The love emitted from your heart
Is impossible not to return.
I agree with Saiom. I think
I agree with Saiom. And, also,I think this poem is one of the centerpieces of your entire collection. The poem is poignant throughout its entire form, but. in that final stanza, as some composers do in great symphonies, you bring it to a very intense conclusion.
Starward
If you want more time, may
If you want more time, may a merciful God give that to you.
A deep inspiring and unusual poem
