John Milton said, with some authority
that poetry
testifying to Christianity
should have at least as much artistry
as any pagan's verses;
otherwise the effect disperses
with no honor to God's only Son;
but just a doubt in contention---
"What, really, was the invention?
"Or is it a literary conceit
"(like old King Richard---half-formed and incomplete)
"And for what reason was this done?"

Thank you. Here is another poem I wrote about John Milton, a (fictional) romance he had during college, and a favor done for him by his friend, Oliver Cromwell. http://www.postpoems.org/authors/coerulescent/poem/1054822
