Final thoughts of a soldier

Christ! this fire is never to end

a promise i made to my country

has begun to play tricks on my soul

unaware of the fate in which my body

lay nameless in the trenches

nothing for the ears

of my mother and wife

and the children yet to come

no news of my life, or death.....so it well may be

and my eyes fall upon

the stars and stripes

and the young fallen brothers whose lives

are no longer aging

but stuck in our minds forever as the young age

that they all were

merely children on the playground

just years ago

and so will be it.....
