Sequoia

Sequoia

I will never see the redwood tree

it was never meant to be

wonders I have seen, left behind

for someone else to seek and find

the loves I loved will no longer linger

when Morte protrudes his bony finger

gone is the truth of who I have been

ever more, never to be seen

the baobab tree has had its day

the kookaburra has ceased to play

the music over, the song is sung

yet the tune remains forever young

one last gasp before retreat

an atheist has no god to meet

all said and done, no reason to be sad

a tree is a tree and of that I am glad

but

I will never see the redwood tree

nor will the redwood tree, ever see me
