Wounded Sisters - New York- Madrid

Two sister cities now,- New York - Madrid

Can boast a strange familiarity,

Both have experienced in the concrete

The reign of  terrorist atrocity.

Inspired by some line in the Koran.-

As they interpret it, - with savage zeal

Sliced up big trains alike a tuna can

And human masses with the doors of steel

Embrace, embrace twin sisters tenderly,

Fed by experience identical,

New York, your dead lay in the armory,

Madrid does list their names upon a wall.

Big Apple!  be on guard! - El Prado you,-

The pride of valiantly battling Spain!

Plug up your heart now and pursue

The foe  that caused such agony and pain

On the same date, you both were visited,

By functionaries, agents of the pit,

Lo! - the eleventh, note! - and learn from it,

Dear City of New York and you Madrid!

Oh mystery of evil! - who explains

Such coward deeds and such atrocity

Of slicing bodies up and chock-full trains

In savage  and ferocious butchery

New York - Madrid you are twin sisters now

Trained by experience identical

And smitten by the equal coward blow

Do not lose heart, brave sisters but stand tall!

New York, - Madrid,- bold sisters you of pride

Embrace and hug each other sisterly,

But after hugging, sisters go and fight

The agents of the pit of infamy.

And you that read pray God that He may heed

The wounds of the Big Apple and Madrid

Absolutely marvellous Elizabeth.
You have expressed, in well-constructed verse, the feelings of many regarding the two deliberate incidents of cruel death and destruction in these two cities.
I do not know the significance of the eleventh of the month, and have wondered about it myself.
Thank you for creating and posting this articulate and moving poem.
