Goodbye and Goodnight

“Goodbye and goodnight,” she said as she hung up the phone

On that clear, warm early July night.

She told him she felt much better,

Yet, he knew something just wasn’t right.

Nevertheless, he let her go,

Going to bed (feeling a strong sense of pain).

Finally, he found the strength to sleep

Hoping she’d feel better when they could talk again.

But the next night when he punched her number in,

The answer he got sent him strait to tears

For this message on the machine that she left

Confirmed all of his largest fears.

“This is to who it may concern at this time.

This life that I lead just can’t be complete;

No matter what I do or how hard I try

I can never stay strong up on my feet

“So now I take the fall that I can never recover.

I finally take a sleep for which there is no wake.

I love you John, Mom, Dad, I do

But I cannot help the problems at stake.”

He dropped the phone to the ground.

What had happened, what could he have done?

He thought that he could help her get through this;

He thought that he had this battle won.

With no reason to live he wrote the note:

“I, JP, have no more reason to stay.

I’ve gone to find love where it traveled last,”

And with that it was done, he lived his last day.

Clay~
What a wonderful poem of pure emotion and raw hurt that just grabs the reader. Although both parties ended thier lives so violently you can relate to the love that these two shared. I love you

Hey hun. This is a sad poem, but written so well to portray such emotions. It's amazing what lengths people will go to for the one they love, and you've managed to capture just that. Good job!
Forever and always,

This is another really good poem of yours. I love it because i have this feeling all the time about my friend who is going through a tough time and I am trying to be there for him and every night before I tell him good night that thought always seems to float through my mind. All of your work some how relates to me. Well keep up the good work
