Nasty Neighbour.

About nine or ten boys use our street as a football ground. They have been told many times to go somewhere else to play the snag is we have no suitable ground for the kids to play. The park has been closed since the war, the council say they have no money to keep the park clean and tidy. The kids have got to have somewhere to play and they often come back to our road. Sometimes the football lands in one of our gardens most people throw it back out on to the street. Not my miserable neighbour and balls landing in his garden gets struck with a fork. I myself have a few times asked him not to push a fork into the footballs. It is not cheap to buy or repair footballs and the kids have not got so much money that they can buy a new ball. A couple of times we have clubbed together for a new ball for the kids They are grateful and for a few days our street is free from footballs, But in other streets they are turned away and come back to us.

Our ugly neighbour had no intention of returning any ball that landed on his property and again ball after ball got the Fork treatment

I called the neighbours to a meeting and we marched to the town hall. The council and the Mayor were not pleased at seeing so many people. I demanded that instead of building a new theatre the council should put the old park in order so that the children could have some place to play. First it would keep them off the streets and secondly swings and roundabouts and other things such as slides could be placed in the park, God knows there is more than enough room to keep the kids off of the busy streets. Then one of the counsellors let the cat out of the bag. The park was to be turned into building land. This caused a general upheaval our park to be turned into blocks of flats even more nature being taken way from the peoples that were forced to live in a town, Our protests were so hefty that the mayor and the council all backed down from their offices. The new council will be one that promises out park to be renewed with playroom for the town’s children. It took two months to get everything ready then came the day of the voting. Every one that had some means of propulsion such as a car a motorbike and sidecar all took the old or ill to the voting booths. Our Children’s Party won the election and now our town is being praised and visited by people from all over the world.

No more footballs are to be seen in our street new lighting making it a little safer if one had to go out at night. I could write a whole list of the new improvements in our town and this all for the sake of a few boys playing football. I your scribbler felt compelled to tell you all about what can happen when all people get together for the good of the community. Bern
