The Beasts in a Girl

There was a girl

who hid under her covers

Who waited and sat

and cried for her mother

There was a girl

with a hidden belief

Who looked in the clouds

and saw the beasts

There was a girl

who saw no other

Who laughed past her tears

and hid for her lover

There was a girl

who only the wind could hold

Who saw the hail

and loved the cold

There was a girl

who touched the beast

Who saw the sadness

and rose to her feet

There was a girl

who left her home

Who touched the clouds

and saw the dome

There is now a girl

who hides away

Who lets them in

and waits for the day

There is now a girl

who has the world at her feet

Who abides the storms

and knows how to retreat

There is now a girl

who plays no games

Who knows the struggle

and knows the pains

There is now a girl

who rides the beasts

Who cries out her fears

and wallows in her grief
