Nearly everybody sings about love.
That it sets you free,
That it belongs to you and me,
That it comes fast and goes easy,
But it's also true that everything takes work.
If it's gunna last
You have to let go of the past.
You have to lay down your chains and let love in.
Nearly everybody sings about love.
I guess people like to hear the words.
I guess people run around all day just to make love work.
It's true, it's a lonely world.
But it's also true that there are different kinds of love.
Londsome doves become randy.
Burning hearts becoe family.
You have to give in a number of different ways.
Nearly everybody sings about love.
Maybe that's what makes life worth it.
Maybe it brings our flawed selves a little closer to perfect.
I was a child when I first heard it,
But it's always been there, like a cloud that never passes.
Loners can get desperate.
Middle aged women can get cynical, even contemptuous.
There's a barrier to everything.
Nearly everybody sings about love.
I hardly know what I'm talking about, but,
It seems to me that if you're going to carry and sign and shout
You should at least put love in the sound.
Youth seems better at tearing down than building up.
Old age seems reluctant to be irreverent, or irresponsible.
They say that with love all things are possible.
However I'm not so sure.
Nearly everybody sings about love.
I don't have much to add to the cannon.
It seems it's all been said,
That' it's all been done even.
Love is nothing new, in short.
From the bible to Shakespeare, to Brittany Spears,
Nearly everybody sings about love.
I guess we'll sing about it until we're gone.
