Nations have long memories

Oh, yes, they do. And we are keeping those memories fresh with every drone strike on the people of Somalia. We don't want resolution, but rather for the tin pot dictators of our choice to keep control. Colonialism ended in Africa, but only on paper. The nations left, so we could claim self-righteousness, but the corporations stayed behind and that's where the real control is (see: Elon Musk's inherited emerald mines in South Africa for one particular example, and Pat Robertson's corporate diamond and gold mines in the Congo and attempted ones in Liberia, for another). As a bonus, most of the countries were handed over to dictatorial governments who could be more openly vicious and enact slave labor, something that was going to be increasingly difficult for colonial governments to do post-WW2, especially in a more literate western world, with advancing communications technologies. So it was a win for propaganda, and a win for profits, as it is less costly to let tin pot dictators handle the enforcement of slave mining camps and "running" a country than for colonial governments to do it.

"Peace is a big word

but so is starvation"

Great lines. Not many wiser have been etched. Hammer right on the nail. One could even posit that starvation - if history is proof of anything - is both literally and figuratively an even bigger word than peace. Rising crime in the increasingly food insecure USA is even proof of that (but they'll say we just need more police, of course).

So Much To Contend

.

Immigration may exceed both once moma nature gets her groove groovin' . Putin added chaos to chaos - economic colonialism was sealed with the universal glue of globalism. The game is  cheap resources and wageless labor. Dictators (tin can or otherwise) are learning how to align with bigger states for personal or gang gain. usa should have taken over Mexico, Central Amer. and the Carribbean including Cuba and Dominican Republic a century ago. Unaligned "emerged" states will tumble like landslides once ores and the big two resources diminish. The ants will scramble.

 .

We need to get rid of debt and let the eu support the U.N. and the World Bank. (usa controlled dollar infusers). The Trumpledster wanted to withdraw from NATO. He may have stumbled upon a good idea. Modernize. We need something more equitably financed. (I NEED UNLEADED PIPES AND WATER PURIFICATION PLANTS!) Time to pay national debts down usa.

Nations have long

Peace is a big word

But so is starvation.

Two great lines!  You have a way of finding the right words.  Concise, but unforgettable.

War

I keep asking why another war? Russia's quiet coup of strong men has subjugated their people again. Rebellion with the hope to unseat Putin Lurks. The question is will they wake up when they discover the shelves in the stores empty. Eventually, they may want their country back.

While our eyes are on

While our eyes are on Ukraine, Somalia's humanitarian crisis and its tidal wave of refugees should not be forgotten. The last three lines of your poem show a great amount of awareness and compassion. Well said!

Myopic Vision

.

All connected, humans surviving. Indoor farming can feed communities. Cities farm vacant lots. Apartment farm? With inflation about to double, maybe! :D

.

As eco-systems fail (300,000 +Haitians died in 2010) migration will increase - see Haitians in sail boat rescue off Florida. Dominican Republic built wall and armed guards seal off 1/2 of Hispanola. It begins.

I wasn't aware of the crisis

I wasn't aware of the crisis in the Dominican Republic. Heartbreaking.

In regards to city farming, when I lived in San Diego I grew an amazing amount of food in  a tiny yard using very little water with my own hybrid organic/hydroponic system. Yes, it's time to get creative Thanks for keeping us informed.

Food Prices?

Lots of shovels will be sold in 2022. When I was a kid, everyone had a veg garden. Talk about fresh!
