The Leaf

The sky offers so much

But when we look up

I only see the leaf,

I only see the branch

As it meanders sideways;

I only see the tree trunk

As it thrusts itself

Through the earth.

I only see the earth,

With grass and fields,

And mountains holding

It down for me

To walk upon and explore.

I only see the terrain

Upon which I toil

And use to me benefit.

I only see my life,

Controlled by the

Insignificant things.

I only see the leaf

Within my grasp

But finding the leaf

Is my key to the sky.
