Dear Dad

I know it's been a while since I've last turned my face

and talked to you when nothing's there.

I've been busy.

I'm sorry.

There isn't a day when I don't think of what you once were.

That's a memory that always stays alive other than you.

I know I went to the cemetary and said my final goodbye.

Don't think I'll stop thinking of you.  I won't.

There are things in this lifetime when we have to let go.

And you must force yourself to go on and live again.

I'm sorry for not saying the I love you's sooner, but

I'm saying them now.

I dream this dream.

And you're alive.

And I ask, hey dad where've you been?

And you gently smile and look away.

And you start walking towards a light.

And you're gone.

And I hear you say, I've loved you like my daughter and I

always will.

There are no goodbyes.

Only love.

And you're gone.

I carry that dream hoping it'll bring me peace.

I wanted to say Happy Father's Day, but

you already know what I'm saying.

I love you.

Sleep well wherever you are.

And celebrate your day for being who you are born to be.

And that's being a damn good father.

Goodnight.

Love,

Melissa

Mel in my opinion I think that your right about fathers they really are a blessing to have and should be admired and respected for who and what they are.

Melissa, this was an excellent poem. I felt the love you have for your (step)Father. Through your words I also sensed that universal "while they were with us we didn't appreciate them like we should". It came through loud and clear. You made me think of my Mom, who I miss so much, as she stepped into eternity 3 years ago. Thanks Melissa for helping us all remember to appreciate WHO we have and who we have had in our lives.

Grace & Peace,
Molly
