The Magic

Author's Notes/Comments:

somehow I missed that it is National Poetry Month where the last couple of years I wrote at least a poem a day...I found out yesterday from a facebook memory...have not seen any posts about it anywhere on twitter or facebook...saw that I had written something on the 3,4,5 already and then wrote one yesterday and now one today so I only have 6 more to write to be up to date to catch up on an average of a poem a day as long as I keep writing one a day at least for the rest of the month...the pressure is on...ha ha...woke up with this one in my head early this morning...had to get up to start writing it down and let it keep coming...you know how that goes...

Seeking Siku

Author's Notes/Comments:

wrote this on 11-17-2016 when I went to see a new polar bear at Lincoln Park Zoo and my timing was off...apparently he is very active early in the morning and then goes inside and sleeps so I missed him but he inspired this poem and I went back a couple of weeks later and got some great youtube video of him already in his pool splashing around....He inspired a second poem also posted here Sequel to Seeking Siku A.K.A. Siku Found Splashing Around....  https://youtu.be/8MfUeVpQh1c

Estranged

Author's Notes/Comments:

wrote this poem upon learning of the death of my dad on 12/13/17...don't get me wrong...he was always there for me whenever I needed help and I appreciated that...but for some reason we just got on each other's nerves all the time...it was hard to spend any time with him feeling that type of tension...when my mom was alive and he answered the phone I would always say Hi is mom there? never Hi how are you or any attempt to start any conversation with him...I could talk on the phone with my mom for hours and then after hanging up call her back cuz I forgot to tell her something....where with my dad I never had much to say or talk about with him...weird...uncomfortable...after my mom died it was always so hard to go by him cuz I missed her so much...He had lots of health issues over the past few years he was more in and out of the hospital or rehab than at home...he really went through a lot..may he rest in peace...and hopefully be reunited with those who passed before him...

Dress Codes

Author's Notes/Comments:

I was just thinking about this artist whose music I really love but he seems to always play in a club with a dress code and I am not into those....so it inspired me to write this poem....thanks tyDi...or the place with the dress code that keeps me away....ha ha..oh ya the standing room only is another problem for me....I need someplace to sit but that could be another poem maybe...hmmmm

Dead End Daze

016 April PAD Challenge: Day 30

By: Robert Lee Brewer | April 30, 2016

Yesterday, the blog seemed to take the haphazard prompt a little too seriously–as some people were able to access the blog while others were not. Our tech team was working on the very unorganized problem and hopefully have a solution, or else the final prompt of the month will live up to its name as well.

For today’s prompt, write a dead end poem. Of course, I was thinking in terms of the challenge, but a dead end can literally mean the end of a person’s life, a dead end road, a dead end job, dead end mortgage, and so on. Take the phrase “dead end” and apply it to a noun, and the possibilities are nearly endless (except, well, there’s the whole “dead end” finality to it, I suppose). I hope it’s fun and that the blog is alive and well today. #aprpad #NaPoMo #poetry prompt 30, #pamschwetz
