Doorstep (January day 9)

the rest of us

just live here

grow like wounds

on your doorstep

you say you couldn’t

care less

I care about everything

crossing my path and

you love me like

heartache, some sort of fever

stories I hope

the other pieces of my heart will not have to hear

I have never sang

I wanted you

without blood on your hands

to understand I was drowning

you keep me in the freezer

for the summer nights

this is what you do

when I crumble in your hands

if you step on me

at least it is touch

I’ll be anything,

exactly what do you want me to be

immobilized in the doorway

in this house

almost like you said you wanted
