This is our soil

If cars can run on water
and man can make it rain
we could work together
if greed don't take over again

This liquid runs thick
coursing through our veins
coaxing many into a trick
one we can't maintain

The sun rises over the fields
rusty birds creek and suck
blood for oil desperatly concealed
still worth the bang for your buck?

the crude smell reaking of money
fueling a world-wide epidemic
a tainted dawn not so sunny
the repercussions are systemic

sheltered by the media
like the ravaged wetlands
a list fatter then an encyclopedia
raping our tarsands

dying soldiers gurgled
thinking they fight for nations
dying for corporations
a baby they once snuggled

Daisies

Mommy says daddy's
pushing up daisies.
“I bet he's a good gardener.”
One day you'll recognize a martyr

For the “Red, white and blue”.
“We want you!”,
While fatherless babies are born.
Since when do eagles grow horns?

Open up a gaping hole.
A weakened young-in as a whole.
To bad tragedy
thrills me.

I am not a monster,
but i cannot counter.
We live vicariously,
time to face reality.

Such a thought provoking yet lovely construction!

You presented a collage of modernity worth contemplating and did so with such compassionate intellect. No reader could help but appreciate the great thought and love that you put into this poem. Please promise to share more with us here in our little big community of poets. Oh, and of course Welcome to the neighborhood! Sincerely, Melissa Lundeen.
