I gave my heart away
Never to be returned.
I gave it to a sailor boy
Who had given his to the sea.
His hair was as yellow and speckled
As the shore by the sea,
His eyes a stormy gray.
Alas for the girl who gave her heart to he.
With his boat, he romanced the waters.
With his hull, he kissed the waves.
Alas for me
Who did not see
He could love no other than she.
The sea had captured him.
Enthralled with her beauty
He pursued her.
Alas for he who loved the sea!
I lost my heart
To a sailor boy
With the eyes of stormy gray,
And, in turn,
Lost it to the sea.
