There was a time when I felt dumb
Felt like my life was in a slum
But I learned a little better than most, oh

I hid my mind for just me to view
Covered my hands away from you
Felt like an empty shell, like a ghost

But I keep shufflin' my feet, this chain won't bring me to my knees

I used to care what people thought
Always lived by the rules that I was taught
