Cheerleader Corpse

Ashleigh sits in English class,

Twirling her blonde, permed hair.

Acting like she notices nobody,

But everyone knows she's sitting there.

Stuck up asshole cheerleader,

She treats everyone like shit.

Looks down her nose on the unpretty,

And the unpretty hate it.

Got everything she ever wanted,

She's Daddie's little girl.

But lacks the attention that she needs,

So she's mad at the world.

She plays around with her compass set,

I'm assuming she's finishing her work.

She looks over at me, tears in her eyes,

And ajusts the strap of her shirt.

I think about what I have heard about her,

People talk, it's nothing new.

And all these things are pretty sad,

I wonder if they're true.

She cries at night, to get it out,

It doesn't make it any better.

And now I see blood seeping through,

The sleeves of her baby blue sweater.

I really like it. I'm a cheerleader and a lot of people don't understand that we are just people too. Not all of us are bitches and sluts. I think your poem really addresses that not everyone is what they seem.

Thanks, everyone for your

Thanks, everyone for your comments! I'm sorry it took me so long to address them, I haven't been on this profile in a long time. I'm hoping this poem can help more people understand that it's not just the punks, goths, freaks, etc. that have problems. I was different in high school, I'm from a small town so people were generally nice to me. But I realized that there was more help offered to our groups than to the "preppy" people and I didn't think that was fair. Everyone has similar problems. There is a lot of pressure put on everyone in High School and sadly it can eventually lead to suicide or self-harm. If everyone saw things from this perspective, I think you would find a lot more understanding between teenagers and less ridicule and tormenting. So many people dropped out of my school because they were made fun of! It's not fair to have to give up your education because people are just plain mean. Our school system has to put forward more effort and understanding when it comes to making people feel comfortable.

Thanks so much and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
