Making More Memories
I swam in this creek when I was young
from one end to the other,
But this big old tree was a favorite spot
for me and my four brothers.
That big old limb hanging over the water,
we would dive off it and laugh.
Our diving wasn't of real great form
cause we made one hell of a splash!
The day we laid our mom to rest
we came back here now as men,
Looking for some peace of mind
for this is where our lives began.
The water still looked crystal clear
as thoughts ran through our minds.
I know they were thinking the same as I
of younger days and simpler times.
My oldest brother got too close
and with a yell he fell in.
And when he came to the top
he was smilling and began to swim..
His hair and beard dripped water
as he looked up at that big limb
And I swear as I stood there and watched
he turned into a kid again.
We watched him dive, float and swim
so funny we had to laugh
and without a word between us
we hit that creek with a splash..
As kids we could play for hours
but after thirty minutes this day,
The kid in us got tired
and we crawled upon the bank to lay.
As we walked away from that creek
each with a smile on his face
We knew mom would be so proud,
to see the kid in the men she raised.
This poem is absolutely beautiful, and touches so many emotions. I enjoyed it immensely.
